The Team
Justin Freind - Artistic Administrator & Teacher

Justin began his careet at the age of 7 in a production with the Bridgetown Repertory Club and has been performing ever since.
Having trained at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music, he has a Certificate in Classical Music, a Diploma of Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Music (Performance).  He has performed as a soloist with numerous companies including West Australian Opera and West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
He as worked as a musical director/conductor on nearly 20 community and Pro-am productions.
Justin is one of Australia's leading G&S performers having been involved in over 25 G&S productions in Perth, New Zealand and the UK.
In 2017 he was awarded the Robert Finley Award for Best Actor in a Musical and was inducted into the Independent Theatre Association Hall of Fame for his contribution to community theatre.  Justin, along with this wife Katherine, are very passionate about the training that young performers get in Musical Theatre and theatre in general.


Katherine Freind - Musical Theatre Teacher & Administration

Katherine Freind began dancing at the age of 2 and has trained in Classical Ballet (RAD), Jazz & Tap (CSTD) and also has a Diploma of Music Theatre (ATOD).  Her Vocal training spanned over a 20 year period with Ruth Young (Atkinson) and Shirley Flesfader in the earlier years, and whilst the genre of Musical Theatre is her first love, Katherine has been vocally trained with Classical Foundations.  Her Music Theatre training began at the early age of 7 where she first appeared in the ensemble of South Pacific with Rockingham Entertainers and since then she has performed and directed for Amateur, Pro Am and Professional theatre in Perth.  Katherine also spent many years singing in an Acoustic Duo “Muse”, during which time she wrote and performed original songs with Nat Ripepi.  Muse was very fortunate to support many interstate and international artists and also released 2 CD’s.  For the past 15 years Katherine has been Co-Owner of The Stage Key Company, a dance school which provided dance and music theatre training to all ages.  Katherine has directed musical theatre productions for various theatre companies and a number of these have nominated for Robert Finley Awards. She feels very fortunate to be bringing to Bel Canto Performing Arts a varied musical, theatrical and dance background and is passionate about providing traditional skills in a modern and friendly environment allowing all students to reach their full potential.

Matilda Jenkins - Dance Teacher & Production Choreograhper
Matilda started dancing at the age of 2 and has been trained in RAD Ballet (Grade 8), CSTD Jazz & Tap (Advanced) and ATOD Jazz (Intermediate) & Tap (Advanced) and in 2015 she added teaching to her skills.  Matilda has also completed a Certificate II & III in Music and a Certificate III in Sound Production.  Her Musical Theatre debut was at the age of 4 in a production of The King & I at the Regal Theatre and since then Matilda has continued to develop her theatrical skills in community theatre in Perth.  Vocally she has trained for many years with Ross Burford and she has participated in vocal ensembles and eisteddfod's with much enjoyment and success.  Matilda is a consumate performer and is looking forward to sharing her love and passion for dance and the arts with others.
