BLAKE JENKINS

Blake Jenkins is an Australian Artist with a passion and love for many different aspects in performing arts. Most recently in 2021, Blake made his directorial debut for Bel Canto Performing Arts and their production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. The sell-out season ran for two weeks at the Old Mill Theatre, South Perth and went on to win Best Youth Production at the 46th Annual Robert Finley Awards.

 

​At the age of 11, Jenkins made his professional debut in the Perth season of the Australian touring production of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (TML Enterprises) as part of the children’s ensemble. The show ran for six weeks at the Crown Theatre, Perth, where Blake had the opportunity of working alongside some of Australia's leading musical theatre performers as well as the most expensive stage prop in theatre history at an impressive $1.2 million – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang herself.

 

In 2015, Blake was lucky to be exposed to the world of film, serving as a competition extra in the Australian Feature Film 'Paper Planes' (Roadshow Entertainment). Soon after in 2016, Blake was cast as Eugene in 'Grease' the Musical (HAMA Productions) at the Regal Theatre, Perth.  Blake was featured as a performer at Telethon (Channel 7) and was also cast as the Innkeeper in the City of Perth Christmas Nativity (City of Perth). 

 

In 2018, Jenkins was nominated for Best Youth in a Musical at the 44th Annual Robert Finley Awards for his role as La Cienega in Black Box Performing Arts production of 'Bring It On' the Musical. Blake was also the recipient of the Sheila Buchanan Achievement Award for his work in stage performance and AV projection design for many theatre clubs across Perth. 

Since then, Blake originated the lead role of Elliot Goodman in the 2019 Australian Premiere of 'Band Geeks' the Musical (Black Box Performing Arts) where he was also nominated for Best Youth in a Musical at the 45th Annual Robert Finley Awards. 

Since 2010, Jenkins has portrayed many iconic musical theatre characters in various community theatre productions including Tiny Tim (Scrooge), Tin Man (Wizard of Oz), Jafar (Aladdin), Peter Pan (Peter Pan), Seymour Krelborn (Little Shop of Horrors), Ritchie (13), Nate Gray (Camp Rock) Fagin (Oliver!), Curly McLain (Oklahoma!) and Walter Hobbs (Elf).

Blake has completed a Certificate II in Musical Theatre (2016), Certificate II & III in Music Industries (2018/19), and a Certificate II in Creative Industries (2019). In 2020, Blake completed his Diploma of Musical Theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).

After a year of full time Administration & Engagement work at the Cummins Theatre in Merredin (2021), Blake has returned to Perth, now teaching Musical Theatre and Creating Work for Bel Canto Performing Arts. In July of this year, Jenkins returns as Production Director for BCPA's production of Singin' In The Rain Jr.
